Why is my ceiling light blinking or staying slightly on?

Why is my ceiling light blinking or staying slightly on?

It’s a very common issue for a ceiling light or downlight to blink or remain slightly on after turning it off.

This happens because LED technology requires very little power to operate, and when replacing a non-LED product with an LED one, residual voltage in the circuit may cause flickering or faint illumination.

How to fix it?

Simple: install a capacitor in the circuit. This device stores the residual voltage and eliminates the flickering problem.

Why does my smart ceiling light blink when turning it on?

Why does my smart ceiling light blink when turning it on?

Sometimes your smart ceiling light or fan (models like Tibet, Himalaya, Nepal, Alisio XL) may blink after turning it on from a wall switch. This blinking means the fixture has entered pairing mode.

This is the method to pair the ceiling light with the Tuya system so that voice recognition with Alexa or Google Home works.

To put these ceiling lights into pairing mode, you must do a sequence of power offs and ons — it’s 3 ons and 2 offs.
If done within the times we indicate, the ceiling light will begin blinking.

ON ——< 5 sec———- OFF ——–∞ ——– ON ——–< 5 sec——– OFF ———-∞ —— ON ————- (BLINKING)

Why does the ceiling light blink sometimes without having done the sequence?

This happens because sometimes when we turn on the ceiling light and turn it off in less than 5 seconds — for example, if we enter a room by mistake or regret turning the light on — if this happens twice, even if not close in time, the next time we turn the ceiling light on, it will blink.

The ceiling light needs two ON-OFFs of less than 5 seconds and another ON.
But they don’t have to be consecutive, because between the OFF and the next ON there is no minimum time, it’s infinite time — it can be hours, a day, or any amount of time.

The ceiling light has a counter and it will blink after two ON-OFF sequences of less than 5 seconds.

The counter will reset to zero if you do an ON-OFF of more than 5 seconds, and the sequence will need to start again.

For this reason, it’s not usual for an unintentional blinking to happen, but it can happen.
It’s not a failure, it just means that the sequence was accidentally performed.

Is there a solution?

The solutions are:

  • Try to use the remote control, the app, or voice commands to turn the light on and off.
  • If you usually use the wall switch, try not to turn it on and off in less than 5 seconds, because if you do it twice, pairing mode will start.

As we said, it’s quite rare to do it by chance, but it can happen.

If blinking starts, turn off the power from the switch, and the blinking will stop.
